Imlaystown is a handful of streets around a lake and an old mill, tucked into Upper Freehold Township three miles from Allentown. There is no through traffic to speak of because there is nowhere to get to by driving through it, which makes it one of the quietest places we cover and gives its cars a very particular life: short trips on narrow lanes, long periods parked outdoors under trees, and no daily highway mileage at all unless somebody commutes.
That pattern produces late-discovered damage more than dramatic damage. A chip taken on 526 or 195 during an occasional longer run sits on a car that is mostly stationary, and the freeze-thaw cycle works on it over weeks while nobody is looking. The other Imlaystown speciality is what happens on lanes barely wide enough for two vehicles: pulling onto a soft grass edge to let something past, and being showered by whatever the other vehicle picks up out of that same edge.
