Rear glass is the piece people most often assume is simple, and it is the one with the most going on. The pane is tempered, so it does not crack and wait for you — it lets go entirely into small cubes, usually into the trunk well, the spare wheel recess, the rear seat backs and every seam of the load area. Printed into that glass on most vehicles is a heated grid, connected by a tab at each side that is soldered or clipped to the vehicle's loom, and on many cars the radio antenna is printed into the same pane and shares the arrangement. Pull those tabs carelessly and the new glass goes in with no demister, no radio, or a grid that heats half the window. Getting them off clean and back on properly is the actual skill in the job.
Then there is the aperture. A bonded back glass sits on urethane exactly as a windshield does, which means the same discipline: old adhesive trimmed to an even bed, bare metal primed, one continuous bead, and a genuine cure time before the vehicle is driven or a tailgate is slammed. Gasket-set rear panes on older trucks need the rubber judged honestly rather than reused because it came off in one piece. And the cleanup is not optional.
