$200 to $500 covers a side or rear window on nearly every vehicle we see in Roosevelt, fitted at your address in about an hour to ninety minutes once the correct pane is in hand. Side and rear glass is tempered rather than laminated, so it does not crack and sit there — it collapses into thousands of small cubes on impact, and clearing those out of the door, the seat rails and the trunk well is a real part of the time. Call 215-608-1108 with the year, make, model and which window it is.

In a borough ringed by woods and open fields, a fair share of these calls have nothing to do with a parking lot. A deer coming out of the tree line into the side of a car at dusk takes out a door glass or a quarter pane as often as it takes out a fender. A limb comes down across a driveway in a wet snow and lands on the rear glass of whatever was parked underneath. A stone thrown sideways off a mower or a brush hog does a door window in a way that looks deliberate. Tempered glass fails all at once by design, which is safer for the people inside and messier for everyone afterward.
The work reflects that. The door card comes off, the regulator and the run channels get cleared and run through their full travel, the weep holes along the bottom of the door skin get checked, because that is where fragments settle and sit, and the vapor barrier behind the trim goes back properly instead of being left hanging. On rear glass, the electrical side comes first: a heated back window carries a defroster grid printed into the pane with a tab at each side, and on many vehicles the radio antenna is printed into the same glass, so the connections have to come off cleanly and go back on properly or you lose the demister, the radio, or both. None of that is difficult. It is just work that gets skipped when someone is rushing.
“Scott came out to my work location and installed my windshield. He did a very clean, professional job. Very reasonable price. A++ highly recommend”

The thing that makes Roosevelt straightforward for this is also what makes it a bit unnerving after a break: the car is parked out in the open, on a quiet lane, often with nobody around it during the day. A vehicle standing there with a missing side window collects rain, leaves and everything the trees drop, and a door cavity full of wet leaf litter is a rust problem later. So we treat these as fast jobs — the glass is usually a same-day or next-morning item — and in the meantime you get a straight explanation of how to tape the opening so water sheds outside the door rather than running down inside it. There is normally plenty of room in a driveway here to work with the doors wide open, which is not something you can say about a borough curb.

The glass is what we handle, and it is often the least of it. Tempered panes give way completely, so what we replace is the whole window plus everything it left behind in the door and the cabin. What we will also tell you is what we see while the door is apart — a bent frame, a regulator that no longer runs true, a door skin pushed in far enough that the new glass would bind. Those are body shop items, not glass items, and it is better to know before a new pane goes in than to have it break the next time the window travels.
Almost never. On most vehicles the back glass is bonded or clipped into the tailgate or the body aperture and comes out on its own, so the hatch, the struts and the wiper motor stay where they are. The extra work is cleanup and electrics: cubes travel a long way into the trunk well, the spare wheel recess and the rear seat backs, and the defroster and antenna connections need to come off and go back cleanly. Tell us the year, make and model and whether it has a rear wiper, and we will bring the right pane and the right seal.
